It’s been a minute, as they say, since I last posted.  Got three things to share.  Two items became available online recently; they might be worth a quick glance, if interested in Alzheimer’s clinical research.

The first is a JAMA Medical News item:Treating Alzheimer Disease With Antiamyloid Therapies—The Real-World Experience Grows”  out this week (08.22.25), summarizing what academic clinicians and others are thinking about anti-amyloid monoclonal therapies currently.   Aducanumab (ADUHELM tradename) was FDA approved in 2021 with some controversy, and it was officially discontinued by Biogen, Inc in 2024.  Similar therapies, lecanumab (LEQEMBI tradename) and donanemab (KISUNLA tradename) were approved in 2023 and 2024.

The article states that reports this year are basically positive, but cites an indirect study of side effects.  Real efficacy, comparisons and outcomes data seem harder to come by according to the item.  The writer was able to quote a number of clinicians about those issues, current practices and ongoing uncertainties.

Another link (I think the article is public domain, so this may or may not work better):  doi: 10.1001/jama.2025.14180

The second relevant online link is the Alzheimer’s Association big annual meeting Highlights; their AAIC wrapped up in London, UK last month (July 2025).  Their news was notably devoid of therapeutic advances per se.  The website heralds links bolstering data about healthy lifestyles and dementia prevention, although it also mentions that lead gasoline might be linked to dementia.

The third item to share, germane to this website, is that this writer plans to stop Alzheimer Gadfly posting.   My companion website, CareGivingOldGuy.website, was created to be more practical, but it will also go dormant soon. Since the writing here and there was trying to remain neutral, although skeptically positive about clinical outcomes (when this writer thought warranted), the hosting costs has been out of pocket (but no worries, it’s been kinda cheap, can you tell?) Thanks for your interest!!
